The REACH program (Recreation, Enrichment, Athletics, Counseling and Health) is a unique after-school mental health program funded by L.A. County Department of Mental Health and designed specifically for children ages 5-12 with social, emotional and/or behavioral challenges. This day rehabilitation program serves children who have full-scope Medical and who reside primarily in the Van Nuys, North Hollywood and Sherman Oaks areas.
REACH is a structured multidisciplinary therapeutic program in which the children participate in creative and enriching therapeutic groups and activities designed to assist each of them in developing skills and enhance their strengths to improve daily functioning at home, school and socially.
Our creative and dedicated staff work to inspire the children through many diverse activities driven by the interests of the children such as sports, arts & crafts, motivational incentives (such as field trips), leadership opportunities and team-building exercises. These activities are coordinated therapeutically to reinforce positive behaviors in order to improve social skills and team work and foster appropriate and effective communication.
REACH is a comprehensive mental health program that also provides individual and group therapy to directly address the children’s specific needs and help them to overcome barriers to appropriate socialization. Additionally, therapists work closely with caregivers through family therapy as well as parent training and support groups in order to assist the families in learning how to manage behaviors effectively and maintain positive relationships with their children. Psychiatric evaluation and medication support is also facilitated when indicated.
