FamilyFunDayFamilies of children and teens with autism and other special needs are invited to join The Help Group and Kids Like Me for Family Fun Day this Sunday, January 25th. This free event will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Help Group’s Culver City Campus, located at 4160 Grandview Boulevard in Culver City. Free parking is available onsite.

The fun-filled afternoon features a mix of structured and unstructured activities for young people with autism. There will be a live animal show presented by Reptacular Animals, as well as arts and crafts provided by Lakeshore Learning.   Families can also participate in activities led by Wahlbangers Drum Circle Organization, a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life through therapeutic interactive group drumming activities throughout Southern California.

Children will have a chance to meet and pet therapy dogs from The Help Group’s pet intervention program, Paws and Pals for Kids with Autism. Additionally, the playground will be open all afternoon for children who prefer to run and play or who would like a break from the structured activities, and there will be snacks available for purchase.

“Our Family Fun Days allow families of children with special needs to enjoy time together in a safe environment and to meet and socialize with other families in the community,” explained Nicole Webb, Kids Like Me Program Director. “All families and children need opportunities to have fun, connect with others and enjoy a sense of belonging… that’s what this Sunday is all about.”

Families can also visit booths to learn more about Kids Like Me after-school programs and day camps and to talk to staff from The Help Group’s schools for autism and other special needs.  School administrators will be on hand to lead tours of The Help Group schools at the Culver City Campus.

Family Fun Day is free, but families are asked to RSVP in advance by contacting Tracy Peters at 310.751.1489 or via email at tpeters@thehelpgroup.org.
