June 2022 Newsletter

To our Advance LA Community,

June is an exciting month as the end of the school year rolls into the start of summer time. Warm days continue into balmy evenings, people gather for barbecues, and everyone seems to be in a good mood.

The Advance LA team congratulates all the graduates and we wish you joy and happiness as you embark on your next chapter. Advice is always given to graduates and we particularly like Arther Ashe’s suggestion, “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

Arthur’s words dovetail with our Life Skills Coaching philosophy. Our Coaches meet their clients where they are and provide support to help our clients move forward in life. Our Coaches help our clients discover their unique gifts and talents so that jobs and internships can be obtained that match our client’s strengths. And our Coaches encourage our clients to help others by exploring volunteer opportunities.

Advance LA’s mission is to help our clients advance to independent adulthood. We provide virtual classes and club l.a. events that can provide an avenue for remote social engagement. Our Life Skills Coaches are able to meet with their clients remotely, or safely socially distance in person, to provide coaching in the areas of academics, social and emotional well being, executive functioning challenges and vocational education and support.

Please contact us at advancela@thehelpgroup.org for more information.

Wishing you all the best,
Jeri Rochman, JD, MS

Advance LA

From all of us at Advance LA, congratulations to the high school graduates! This is a huge milestone for a young person who has completed thirteen years of education. It is typical for high school seniors to experience mixed emotions as they participate in graduation ceremonies and parties. Feelings of fear, anxiety, and sadness, combined with relief, anticipation, and joy are all part of the normal graduation process. Parents too can feel emotionally overwhelmed as they observe their child achieve a milestone they might have only dreamed was possible.
