Programs & Services - Workability Program

Overview

Overview

The WorkAbility 1 Program provides valuable vocational training to high school students currently enrolled in one of The Help Group’s specialized day schools. This program offers an enriched curriculum that also includes vocational assessments, career awareness and exploration, pre-employment skills training and work experiences.  Students 16 and older may be eligible to participate in paid off-campus work placements based on their interests, abilities and aptitudes .The Help Group partners with a variety of local businesses to provide students with hands-on experience in areas such as customer service, retail sales, animal care, plant operations, child care and food service.

The WorkAbility 1 Program supports the transition of special education students by giving them the opportunity to complete their secondary education while developing the skills necessary for competitive employment and successful outcomes.

The funding for The Help Group’s WorkAbility 1 Program is made possible by a grant from the California Department of Education.

Employers

The Help Group is always looking for businesses willing to open their doors for young adults seeking work experience. The Workability 1 Program Coordinator works closely with employers to develop job sites and accompanies students to the work sites in order to provide one-on-one job coaching.
