Celebrating Success: The Help Group Graduations and the Importance of Milestones in the Neurodivergent Community

2

June is a month of celebration, transition, and new beginnings. For the students of The Help Group’s nine specialized day schools, it marked an especially meaningful milestone – the culmination of their educational journey and the celebration of graduation.

Each of The Help Group’s campuses held heartfelt commencement ceremonies. Students proudly wore caps and gowns and stood before their families, friends, and teachers to honor what they had achieved. The ceremonies were full of powerful moments. Students gave speeches that were funny, honest, and full of hope. They shared stories about friendship, perseverance, and their dreams for the future. There were tears, laughter, and applause as graduates stepped into the spotlight, not just to receive a diploma, but to celebrate how far they’ve come.

Dr. Susan Berman, President and CEO of The Help Group, spoke with pride and admiration:

“We are so proud of our students and what they are capable of accomplishing each and every day. They inspire our commitment to do all that we can to foster their abilities and ensure that every child at The Help Group has the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential.”

The school journey can be uniquely challenging for neurodivergent young people, involving not only academics, but also social, emotional, and developmental hurdles. Behind each graduate stands a dedicated team of teachers, therapists, aides, and administrators. The Help Group’s multidisciplinary staff works together to support every student’s individual needs, whether through college-prep classes, vocational programs, or life skills training.

“The key is focusing on each child’s strengths, and then creating opportunities to maximize their potential,” Dr. Berman noted.

At schools like Village Glen, Bridgeport, Sunrise, North Hills Prep, and Summit View, this philosophy is at the heart of everything they do. Each diploma handed out this June was more than a piece of paper, it was a celebration of a student’s journey, their courage, and the future they are building.

As we honor these graduates and their families, we also acknowledge the broader message their accomplishments send: that with understanding, support, and opportunity, neurodivergent individuals can and do exceed all our expectations.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025. Although you are leaving us today, you will always have a home at The Help Group.
