We are pleased to announce the dates for summer session for all students are: MONDAY JULY 10TH through FRIDAY AUGUST 4

Research shows that students with special needs require the reinforcement of instruction onan ongoing basis to foster retention and transition smoothly to the next grade level.

Utilizing our Career Technical Education (CTE) Program curriculum with a focus on technological advancements, students will explore and navigate each week of summer school with an emphasis on the following academies:

  • Careers
  • Transportation
  • Cooking and Health
  • Communication

WEEK ONE 

Careers

Hey there, future superstars! Are you ready to embark on an epic journey of discovering the coolest and most exciting careers of the future? Well, students, get ready to buckle up because we’re taking you on an adventure through our incredible career academies! FromAgriculture to Fashion & Design, Media Lab to Education, Construction to Hospitality, we’ve got it all covered!

But that’s not all, students! As a team, you’ll work on a thrilling project where you get to flex your creative muscles and design a cool presentation on a selected career. Your presentation will cover everything from technology and knowledge to skills, abilities, work tasks, education, work styles, work values, wages, and employment trends. So, get ready to showcase your superstar potential and make your mark on the world of work!

WEEK TWO 

Cooking & Health

Hey there, students! Are you ready to become food wizards and learn about the wonders of nutrition? Well, get ready to dig in because we’ve got a delicious lesson planned for you! We’ll be exploring how current food trends have travelled back in time to become more organic and healthy.

But wait, there’s more! We’ll also be learning about what goes into our food, including those pesky preservatives, and what makes a meal truly healthy. Plus, you’ll get to choose a healthy meal to prepare in class and show off your culinary skills!

We’ll teach you everything from how to read a recipe to making a shopping list, purchasing ingredients, and cooking/baking your meal right here in school. And the best part? You’ll be able to recreate the meal at home with ease! You’ll even get to practice measuring and pouring with adapted measuring cups, and get hands-on experience with various kitchen appliances.

But of course, safety always comes first, so we’ll also cover important tips and guidelines for handling cooking equipment. So let’s get cooking, students, and whip up some delicious and nutritious meals together!

WEEK FOUR

Communication

Hello, tech-savvy students! Are you ready to learn about the fascinating world of communication? We’re taking you on a thrilling journey through time where we’ll explore how communication has evolved over the years with the help of technology.

But that’s not all! We’ll be diving deep into how we use devices to communicate and the amazing benefits of social media and communication, but we’ll also be learning about the potential dangers of social media.
And the best part? You’ll be working together to develop a super cool CYBER SAFETY campaign! Your presentations will cover everything from precautionary methods to staying safe using text, email, and social media. So let’s brainstorm together and come up with innovative ways to keep ourselves safe in the digital world!

Get ready to unlock the secrets of communication, my dear students, and become masters of cyber safety!

WEEK THREE

Transportation

Hey there, adventurers! Are you ready to journey through time and explore the exciting world of transportation? Get your backpacks ready because we’re taking you on an epic ride! We’ll be learning about the different types of transportation in the past and discovering the awesome modes of transportation that are available in our community today.

But wait, there’s more! As a team, you’ll be working on a super fun project where you’ll design an itinerary for a virtual or actual trip. Your itinerary presentation will cover everything from planning your trip and reading route maps and schedules, to understanding how to use online trip planning tools. Plus, you’ll learn how to get to and from bus stops, identify and board buses, make transfers, and be safe and aware at bus stops, transfer points, transit centers, and on buses. We’ll also teach you what to do in an emergency, how to follow transit etiquette, and communicate your needs to the driver.

So buckle up, students, and get ready to embark on an exciting adventure through the world of transportation!

FUN WITH CTE EXPLORATION

Join us for an exciting summer filled with learning and fun! Our summer school program offers a variety of
opportunities that are designed to engage and inspire students of all ages and skill levels. Students will have an opportunity to explore CTE industry sectors by rotating through Graphic Arts, Agriculture, Construction, and
Hospitality. With a focus on hands-on learning and interactive activities, our program is the perfect way to keep your child engaged and learning throughout the summer.

Graphic Design

Let’s get the students’ creative juices flowing! In this class, students will explore how to design and create their very own T-shirts using the latest technology and a heat press. Whether it’s a funky graphic design or a catchy slogan, students will learn how to bring their wildest T-shirt ideas to life! But that’s not all – students will also get the chance to design logos on mugs using the amazing Cricut Explore Air 2. So, get ready to unleash your inner artist and bring your imagination to life as you design and create your own personalized T-shirts and mugs. Let’s get crafting!

Hospitality

Let your taste buds and passports ready, students! In this exciting class, you’ll explore the world of hospitality and discover the endless opportunities it offers. You’ll learn the ins and outs of tourism by planning epic trips around the globe, from tropical beaches to bustling cities. And what’s a trip without sampling the local cuisine? That’s why you’ll also get to practice working in food services by preparing mouthwatering dishes from your dream destinations. Get ready to tantalize your taste buds with exotic flavors and discover the secrets of the hospitality industry. Are you hungry for adventure? Let’s dive in!

Agriculture

Get ready for the students to put their green thumbs to the test! In this exciting class, students will discover how farming and horticulture have evolved with the power of technology. Students will also have the chance to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty in our very own garden and greenhouse. With every seed students plant, they’ll witness the magic of nature as it blossoms into a beautiful array of flowers and plants. And the best part? Students will capture all of these stunning moments in their very own photo album, filled with vibrant colors and captivating memories. Let’s get ready for the students to cultivate, create, and capture the
wonders of nature!

Water Play

Get ready to make a splash, students! On Friday, Bridgeport Elementary and Middle School students will dive into an epic day of water play activities. From water balloons to wading pools, we’ve got it all covered! But why stop there when you can experience the ultimate in water play – running through sprinklers! So grab your swimsuits, towels, and sunscreen, and get ready to beat the heat in the most fun way possible. It’s time to get wet and wild, students!

Construction

Are the students ready to unleash their creativity and build their very own dream house, towering skyscrapers, or sturdy bridges? Let their imagination run wild as they experiment with an array of exciting materials like blocks, clay, toothpicks, and cards to bring their ideas to life! Get ready to embark on an adventure of endless possibilities as students explore the world of model-making!

Of course we will ensure that students continue to maintain previously learned skills in functional academics in the areas of reading, writing, and math. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to keep your child engaged and learning all summer long!

Period 1- Options

Credit Recovery

The goal of credit recovery is to give students the opportunity to graduate in a timely manner. The class allows students who have failed courses required for graduation an opportunity to make them up without repeating the entire class. Students who have underperformed in courses and wish to improve their skills may also take this course. They will receive individual guidance in order to be successful.

Travel Writing Near and Far

In this elective, students will explore different regions and cultures around the world through the lens of travel writing. They will learn about the different elements that make up effective travel writing, such as descriptive language, sensory details, and personal reflection. Students will also practice writing their own travel narratives about different destinations, incorporating elements of cultural analysis and social commentary.

World Discovery

The world is a big place filled with great wonder! In this course, students will embark on a global adventure that will take them to all seven continents where they will explore different countries, traditions, languages, art, history, and people. In addition, students will learn fun and interesting facts about the different places they visit. For example, ever wonder where the oldest restaurant in the world is located, how about the world’s largest swimming pool, ever been to a festival where you get to throw tomatoes? Join this class and explore the world together!

Olympic Games Around the World

Students in this class will learn about the history and culture of the Olympic Games, and how they have evolved over time in different countries. Students will participate in a variety of sports and activities that have been featured in the Olympic Games, such as track and field, basketball, softball, and volleyball. They will also learn about the cultural significance of the games, and how they reflect the values and traditions of different countries and regions.

Global Modern Art

This course will survey modern art movements and artist from around the world. In addition, students will be creating their own original art, inspired by these artists. Students will therefore be exploring the following modern art movements: Symbolism, Fauvism, Futurism, Expressionism, Suprematism, Constructivism, Metaphysical painting, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop art and Op art.

Improv & Comedy

In this class, students can learn the basics of improvisational theater and sketch comedy. They can work on developing their acting skills, learn how to think on their feet, and work collaboratively with their classmates to create comedic sketches and scenes. This class will be a great way for students to improve their public speaking skills and gain confidence on stage.

Period 2- Options

Art of Film Acting

From Bollywood to Hollywood, film acting is an art form that has captivated audiences around the world. In this class, students will have the opportunity to delve into famous scenes from beloved movies & learn how to bring them to life on camera. By analyzing the themes and techniques used in these films, students will develop their acting skills and explore the nuances of the craft. Come join us on a cinematic journey through cultures & languages as we learn the art of film acting.

Driver Education

Students will learn the rules of the road and how to be safe, responsible, and knowledgeable drivers. This course is California DMV approved and provides students with information they need to get their California Provisional permit.

Global Cuisine

In this class, students can explore the diverse & delicious world of international cuisine. Each week, they can learn about a different culture’s food traditions and cook a meal from that region. They can also learn about the history & cultural significance of the dishes they make.

Natural Wonders of the World

This class will focus on the geological and ecological wonders of different regions of the world. Students will use math to analyze data about things like rock formations, weather patterns, and animal populations, and create graphs and charts to visualize their findings. They will also use art to create visual representations of these natural wonders, and learn about the science behind things like erosion, plate tectonics, and ecosystem dynamics.

Toys Across the Globe

This course will explore traditional children’s toys and games from different countries. They will also be able to create a toy or board game prototype inspired by surveyed toys from across the world. In addition, students will learn to accurately develop and communicate their designs. Furthermore, students will integrate prototyping skills and techniques into their designs, developing a full understanding of the entire design and development process. In essence, also allowing each student to work in a collaborative design team environment.

Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For the best chance of securing your first choice classes, please complete the form below by listing your top three choices for Period 1 and Period 2, and return it to us by April 28th.

Please note that students will be placed in credit recovery courses as determined by school transcripts and school administration.
