More than 80 Help Group elementary, middle and high school students participated in the 2nd annual Southern California Special Olympics Track and Field Game Day. The event took place at LA Valley College’s state-of-the-art Monarch Field on Friday, April 28 and was the culmination of the 2016-2017 Special Olympics sports program, marking the accomplishments of Help Group Bridgeport School athletes.

In partnership with Grant High School, a Special Olympics Unified Champion School, 30 student volunteers from its senior leadership and mentor programs joined Help Group athletes on the field to provide support for the relay, long jump, ball throw and running events, and to cheer on the athletes.

Our thanks to Special Olympics’, Laura Mayo, Regional Director, Santa Clarita Tri-Valley and Kim Villa, Program Specialist for spearheading the day on behalf of Help Group athletes; to Shannon Tobar Teacher specialist at Grant High School and her remarkable group of student volunteers for making the day a memorable one for the athletes and their families; and to Help Group sports coaches for their year-around mentorship and support of the Special Olympics sports program.
