Hinshaw_Summit2015_FBInternational expert on ADHD, Dr. Stephen Hinshaw will be presenting a keynote address for the west coast launch of his latest book, “ADHD: An Overview of What You Need to Know” at The Help Group’s 2015 Summit: Advances and Best Practices in Autism, Learning Disabilities and ADHD.  His keynote will focus exclusively on the content of his new book, and will expand on the core issues–ranging from definitions, causes, underlying models, lifespan development, sex differences, basic treatments, and key reasons for the explosion of diagnoses in recent years–that make ADHD so compelling and controversial.  The keynote on Friday, October 23rd will be given at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, and will be followed by a book signing later that day.

Researched and written by Dr. Hinshaw, and Katherine Ellison, a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist and author, “ADHD: What Everyone Needs to Know” (Oxford University Press) is the go-to book for authoritative, current, accurate, and compelling information about the global ADHD epidemic.

Dr. Hinshaw, Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, is a leader in the field of developmental psychopathology and one of the foremost experts on ADHD in the country. He serves as the Vice-Chair for Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco and is also a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Psychological Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He is an award-winning teacher, and a renowned author of more than 280 research articles and chapters and seven books, including his most recent, “The ADHD Explosion: Myths, Medication, Money, and Today’s Push for Performance”. Dr. Hinshaw is currently the editor of the highly regarded Psychological Bulletin, the most cited journal in psychology.  He is the 2015 recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology, and most recently he was recognized with the 2016 James McKeen Cattell Fellow Award, the highest honor conferred by the Association for Psychological Science for a lifetime of outstanding contributions to applied Psychological research.
